In progress

Abergeldie, in joint venture with BMD and KBR (ABKJV), is delivering the Pakenham Water Recycling Plant Wet Weather Storage project for South East Water. Designed to deliver sustainable water solutions across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs, the works form part of South East Water’s Integrated Planning and Delivery model.

Scope of works

The project involves the construction of critical new infrastructure to increase storage and manage wet weather flows at the Pakenham Water Recycling Plant, including:

  • Construction of two earthen, concrete-lined lagoon storages with a combined capacity of 19.5 million litres.
  • Construction of a wet weather sewage pump station.
  • Installation of ancillary valves and pipework to connect the new storage system with the existing gravity network.

Long-term benefits

The upgrade will expand the plant’s hydraulic capacity to manage peak inflows of up to 750 litres per second, reducing the risk of overflows during heavy rainfall. By enabling temporary storage of excess sewage, the new facilities will safeguard the surrounding environment and communities while modernising the plant’s infrastructure for greater resilience into the future.
